Solutions to Stress

Let’s consider that Stress is a ‘result’ – and that something – is the ‘cause’.

Our ‘modern’ mistake is,  we believe,  the ‘cause’ of our stress is something ‘outside’,  something in our life.  Such as?  Well, here is the official list offered by medical sites:

  • Divorce
  • Moving
  • Job loss
  • Money problems

Let us consider that 0.2 million years ago, our amazing ancestors, as homo sapiens were hunter gatherers. Our fabulous brain stress response, flooding our body with cortisol, adrenaline etc. saved our lives. We stopped thinking! We are too late if we stop to think: “That’s a huge tiger!” We move without thought, to fight the tiger or run like ‘you would not believe’!  And as we fight or run the fabulously adapted body uses up its flood of neurotransmitters. That, behaviour, in a nutshell, is healthy.

But:

When we think stressfully, the kind of thinking that is like an emotional ‘ground hog day’ – the same damn thing over and over and over again – our body is stuck in a chronic state of unused cortisol – which can cause many, many health problems, here are a few examples:

  • Inflammation
  • A compromised immune system
  • Digestion issues
  • Lower bone density in women
  • Loss of libido and sleep
  • Stronger emotional reactions from weariness to anxiety and agitation.

So, let us respect our amazing bodies.

How? –  learn to think differently – the result will be – so worth it – we will be oh so much happier and healthier. Next time I want to talk on HOW we can – LEARN – to think differently.

Well, our magnificent researchers have let us know that being stressed is a major cause of nearly all illnesses; so it’s truly important that we ‘learn’ to stop stressing!

Wikipedia quotes: “Happiness is a mental or emotional state of well-being characterized by positive or pleasant emotions ranging from contentment to intense joy”
Could our Happiness possibly be about choice? Of course, because it really is up to us to be happy:)

I believe we do have the choice. I promise you from my ‘Heart’ – although being outstandingly happy 24/7 would be ludicrous – because we do have the challenges, the uncertainties and absolutely we do have the sadness. Yet: we can learn to give straight, focused time to the challenges and the uncertainties and we can accept that it is healthy for our ‘Heart’ to feel sadness.
If we can consider briefly for a few moments – when we were babies and when we were young children – as long as we were well, warm, fed – physically comfortable And we were experiencing emotional stability, we were in a state of mental & emotional contentment – which, when we saw, heard, smelt, tasted, touched on something exciting, beautiful, intriguing, contentment could range to joy.

When we were ‘at one with our world’ and ‘our world was at one with us’ we were content…………..
Today we were going to explore – the ‘how’ to solve, resolve and ‘heal’ our ‘inner’ objections to our Happiness.

I think we need a couple more things in place before we take this step.
I’ll talk about these couple of ‘steps’ in a moment, because resolving our ‘objections’ to Happiness does take effort.

Enjoyable effort actually, because the effort has immeasurable rewards for our life – the reward being that life can be experienced as a stable inner sense of contentment – no matter the challenges and bewilderments in life.

Just to recap:
When you are answering the questions: And when I am happy – how do I know that I am happy? – and you then choose to answer the question through your own knowing – of some past experience – your thoughts and your feelings You then also ‘note’ the inner objections, such as: ‘Yeah but I’m so worrying about…’ ‘Yeah but I’m really stressing about….’  ‘Yeah but – I can’t say “No”…’ ‘Yeah but I can’t sleep…….’
Our inner objections to our Happiness are valid.

Each objection needs our careful attention – to solve resolve, and heal correctly – and permanently.
So before we explore the ‘how’ to do this – let’s spend another week – for a few minutes a day ‘firming up’ our inner ability and resourcefulness to access our thoughts and feelings of Happiness.

Ideally we would do this – access inner happiness for twenty minutes every hour & a half!

If you are the type of person who likes facts go look up my teacher Dr Ernest Rossi on google – Ultradian Rhythms. Natural rhythms in our amazing brain – every hour & a half throughout the 24 hours our brain wants and needs to rest, totally in a state of contentment for 20 minutes. None of us will take this amount of time in our – oh so busy schedules – to rest & feel content within our self – leaving the world to ‘grind on’ with its problems! You can choose to do the 20 minutes Ultradian rest once a day?

Explore your own beliefs – you can choose to feel happy – it is a choice!

The only times happiness is not a choice are:
1) When our inner objections are not resolved with the right attention.
2) When we are literally in physical danger, when we have to ‘run like mad, or fight’.
3) When we are genuinely grieving the loss of a loved one

Finding Your ‘Mojo’

When we have our MoJo’ with us we can feel we have a connection with an innate kind of ‘magic’ within us.

Children have it! Just watch them play:)

As long as we, as children are fed, comfortable, safe and emotionally secure we are ‘magical’ and creative – we explore the immeasurable potential of our consciousness.

We have a healthy flow between our conscious and unconscious ‘worlds’.

A child who is comfortable, safe and emotionally secure will create a palace from stones in the garden, a space station from a cardboard box!

Let us consider, first things first: Finding your MoJo?

What do we mean by ‘Your MoJo’?

Your Identity? – Your Uniqueness? – Your Self?

Call it what you will – ‘Your MoJo’ or, as a Client recently excitedly said to me: “My Magic Wand”- and another Client beautifully said: “My Intended Being.”

Use whatever name/metaphor ‘sits’ and resonates with You. I will call it MoJo in this article.

Here’s what having your ‘MoJo’ present and available to you will be like, so, please read these next sentences slowly – and the ‘key’ for you beginning to find your ‘MoJo’ will be how you respond to these sentences, in your thoughts and feelings:

Do what you want:  Anything good is achievable:  Achieve abundance and manifest happiness in your life:  Celebrate life. Start being honest with yourself:

Stop talking about other people! 

On first reading we’ll probably think: ‘Absolutely I will!’

On second or third – slow – deliberate reading – we’ll likely notice the objections coming up – as thoughts, such as: “I’m not good enough!” “I’ve tried and failed already” “Nothing works out for me!” I can’t!

These negative internal voices are one of the most important ways that we ‘lose touch’ with our ‘MoJo’.

Our ‘MoJo’ gets buried under the ‘objecting’ inner chatter in our minds.

Most of us do it!

In fact around 99% of us!!

And some of this ‘objecting’ blocking our way to happiness and celebration of our life is unconscious – we often don’t even ‘hear’ the continuous chatter – although for sure we feel the result.

We feel it in our body the churning stomach, the heaviness and tightness in our chest, pounding in our heart, a lump in our throat – and suddenly we are ‘blocked’ we are ‘stuck’ in fear. We don’t speak up, we don’t go and talk to the lovely person at a party, we don’t apply for the great job. We don’t explore, we lose our curiosity we are ‘blocked’ by fear. Our ‘MoJo’ is half ‘buried’ under the negative inner mind chatter, which plays on and on and on, bullying us.

Let’s think for a moment how we feel when we are bullied? Bullied by ‘big people’ – parents, (mostly bullying parents have good intention for us) at school maybe, – peers – people on trains and planes, people in the street! When we are not in a position to ‘stand our ground’ and retaliate, we feel ‘crushed’ – hurt, in ‘pain’ – it’s awful.

Similarly our relentless inner bullying voices ‘crush’ our self!

Polishing Our Mojo!

Do what you want, anything good is achievable, achieve abundance and manifest happiness in your life. Celebrate life. Start being honest with yourself. Stop talking about other people! 

How do we begin to achieve this state of happiness within our selves – and with others?

We begin by permanently silencing the relentless inner negative mind chatter! This is one of the most empowering things we need to do for our self. Our ‘MoJo’ will begin to become fully present, we will not become obnoxious! and we will also be safe.

There is some Great research: young children who are emotionally safe and secure are not obnoxious! They share, they are kind and generous in a healthy way.

Further important research: Positive affirmations, positive thinking, positive suggestions, relaxations, deep breathing exercises do not authentically and lastingly resolve and stop the negative inner mind chatter.

If we think of the negative inner mind chatter as being like horrid damp patches on the inside walls of our home, all the above strategies are just painting over the damp. It will feel good, refreshed and comfortable – for a few hours! Then a friend comes along and says: “Hey let’s go and do this….” And up comes the ‘damp’ – the “I can’t” “I’m not good enough” “I’m too nervous, scared……”

Thoroughly fixing the ‘damp’ takes some time – time that will be oh so rewarding and self-empowering. It’s like we need to take a journey to trace the ‘damp’ – ladders out, get onto the roof, find the broken roof tiles and remove and replace them! The new replaced tiles will last a century!

Self Kindness – Self Respect – Self Compassion

Here is Episode 4 My video on ‘Self Kindness’.
Some call it Self Compassion – Self Worth – Self Respect – there are many terms for this most important self helping ‘exercise’.

If you know me, you will know that my Dad is my Greatest hero.

His Legacy is that of The Gentle Man.
He is as strong as he is tender.
He loves with a Fierce wisdom, me, my wonderful brother, our Mum and all his family.
But, (Yeah the dreaded ‘But’…) he was never truly fully happy!
He was wounded on the Normandy beach on D Day Landings. Not by guns and artillery.
No!
He was ‘Wounded’ by his own belief that he was a failure.
He had failed to save the lives of so many on that beach in France. It was his fault!
No amount of logic would ever free and heal him of his understanding of his guilt and shame.
Did it adversely affect his life?

Yes!
He lived a wise and gentle life for all those around him. He was not gentle with his ‘wounded’ self.
Have you and I experienced anything as unbelievably Traumatic as the D Day Landings?
Probably not. Though I always, always say that Trauma is not about mathematics! You and I can be lastingly ‘wounded’ by the awful glares from the eyes of an important person in our life.
The day before my Dad died, I held his hand and I asked: “What’s up Dad?” I reeled at his reply!
He answered: “Sweet heart, I have got a bad heart”.
What! My Dad has thee best, gentlest, kind heart that I have ever, ever met. Nothing ‘bad’ about his heart.
Did his heart become unwell because he ‘beat his heart up’ every day after D Day?
I will say: Yes it did!
How can I say this?
Well, one thing we now know is that when we live our life in a chronic state of fear, (fear states are triggered by guilt, shame, feeling a failure, anxiety, stressing worrying and so on….) we are automatically producing a number of ‘fear’ related neuro transmitters and hormones into our body, including Cortisol. Cortisol can act to break down lean tissue to release sugar and fat into our system.
These next few lines I have written before, they are truly worth another read even if you have maybe already read them!
Consider one of many reasons: Kindness that we give to others and receive from others AND Kindness that we give to ourselves greatly assists the production of the Amazing: Oxytoxin!
What does this amazing Neuro transmitter do for us?
Loads of Great things!
It aids in the healing of wounds, through its anti-inflammatory properties.
It aids in keeping our cardio vascular system healthy, as basically it binds onto cell receptor sites throughout our entire cardio vascular system – reducing inflammation.
It reduces Cortisol in our body – Whoopee!

We could talk loads more about Oxytoxin!

So:
here is one of the ‘side effects’ of prescribing self-kindness: the release of the Amazing Oxytoxin, which helps prevent us from getting sick!
These ideas that we are exploring together, and thankfully we have a great growing body of research, about self – kindness, do go ‘hand in hand’ with my ‘Seven Golden Keys’ to deconstructing thoroughly our negative, destructive, inner mind dialogues.

You see, the Big Deal with these Golden Keys’, is that the ‘Key’ of all ‘Keys’ – is how we can negotiate elegantly and authentically, (what every other well-meaning Therapy misses out on – to ‘our peril’) – with the negative inner mind dialogues which originally came from our self as a protection mechanism, a mechanism to ‘keep us safe’. This part of our self – needs to be heard, and deserves to be heard – and negotiated with carefully before this protective part of our self, will ‘give up’ it’s protective dialogues.

Try this technique for being – Kind to your Self?

Hi Everyone,

I have just spent a week sailing the wild, wondrous West Coast of Scotland.

A week at sea, out in the elements – wind and tides (and ‘rare’ occasional sun, so sometimes the weather was ‘kind’ to us!!) – But mostly I was wearing about seven layers of clothing!

It was a completely challenging trip! The wind just kept on changing (it’s mind!!) direction – so what the heck!!!, as novice crew – my mind whirled, ‘Yikes, which rope, sheet, halyard gets attention now!!??’

Hey, how about you take a moment or two to think about something you’ve experienced recently that was fun & also Challenging!

Take a moment to reflect – how was your own self kindness during your Challenging experience? Maybe, have a ‘listen’ back to your –perhaps unheard at the time – self dialogues? I bet you were quite grim with yourself?

Sailing, I could have given myself quite a grim time – I could have been quite obnoxiously self-critical, (I think you know how that goes?) as I am not exactly competent crew!
But what would be the point of that?

We do not become more competent by giving ourselves a grim time! When we criticise our self we are threatening our self! We automatically trigger the ‘fear’ response in our brain! Then: Our thinking starts to shut down! (And our immune system also starts to shut down!)

You & I agree on this, right! There’s no point in giving our self a grim time!!

If, which makes perfect logical sense, we decide not to be grim with our self, not to criticise our self, we can therefore really and truly decide to be kind to our self. Right!

Why be kind to our self?

Tons of reasons actually! Which it is well worth our while to keep on exploring more together.

Being Kind to Your Self:

How about trying this technique for being Kind to Your Self?

My Mum often used to say to me: “Goodness – you’re like a dog with a bone!”
I was only little, but I knew she meant –
a) She was kind of frustrated with my tenacity and proud at the same time – or
b) I don’t give up easily!!

Well: Hey: I’m not giving up on you – I urge you to explore My ‘7 Golden Keys’ – on my short easy videos – plus my number 8 video in the series summarizing my ‘Golden Keys’ for you to easily ‘unlock’ your potential and beginning to Free you from your: “I CAN’T’s!!”

This is of ‘Key’ importance!

“I CAN’T’s!!” – which were ‘created’ by you at some time because of experiences in your life to keep you safe!

Those “I CAN’T’s!” need a little careful time and consideration for you to change them.

So, as we proceed toward you being kind to yourself – we will be unravelling a little more of the “I CANT’s!!”
Condensed within the “I CAN’T’s!!” will be you being unkind to yourself with thoughts such as: “I’m not good enough!” “I’ll be useless!” And as a young woman said to me recently: “I so have to repeatedly justify my worth!” Yikes – poor girl, the energy she had to put into ‘justifying’ her self – no wonder she was exhausted.

SUMMARISING: THE HOW OF DECONSTRUCTING NEGATIVE INNER DIALOGUE

So: we’re winding up and summarizing my ‘Seven Golden Keys Series’ for you to empower your self by putting an end to ‘Negative Inner Dialogues’ in my last video of this Series.

Those internal monologues which stop you from taking those steps in your life for you to feel happy, fulfilled and comfortable with your self.
Ending the rigmarole of that negative ‘ground hog day’ cycling and replacing them with positive self affirming inner dialogues – that resonate with and within you.

A Quick Summary:

• My ‘Golden Keys’ are unique – no other Therapy is using them! And, they take only minutes of your time each day.

1. You have been making a space in your mind, with my first brief exercise, so that you can begin to take charge, take control, of those negative inner dialogues that have been holding you back.

2. You have been differentiating ‘where’ those dialogues came from. Some came originally from others and some will have come from your self.

3. You have been deconstructing and energetically dismissing those that came from others.

4. Those that came from your self – originally had the intention to keep you ‘safe’.

5. You have been carefully negotiating how you can change these particular dialogues that came from your self.

6. You then made a start to replace the negative with self-validating inner dialogues.

7. And you have then been ‘making steps across the page’ to more and more positive inner dialogues.

Here is something for you to consider!

Think of someone who you believe is happier more successful and fulfilled than you currently are!

Do you think they’re twice as smart as you? Do they have more years of experience than you? Do you believe they were ‘born lucky’!

Of course it depends on who exactly you are thinking about –
however – we now have plenty of great solid medical research and studies to show us – that successful people are happy or optimistic a large, – very large, percentage of their time.

HOW TO FIND YOUR ‘MOJO’ AND KEEP IT!

sally_-_castle_arms_outWhen we have our ‘MoJo’ with us we can feel we have a connection with an innate kind of ‘magic’ within us.

Children have it!

As long as we, as children are fed, comfortable, safe and emotionally secure we are ‘magical’ and creative – we explore the immeasurable potential of our consciousness. We have a healthy flow between our conscious and unconscious ‘worlds’

A child who is comfortable, safe and emotionally secure will create a palace from stones in the garden, a space station from a cardboard box!

Let us consider, first things first: Finding your MoJo?

What do we mean by ‘Your MoJo’? Your Identity – Your Uniqueness – Your Self.

Call it what you will – ‘Your MoJo’ or, as a Client recently excitedly said to me: “My Magic Wand”- and another Client beautifully said: “My Intended Being.”

Use whatever name/metaphor ‘sits’ and resonates with You. I will call it MoJo in this article.

Here’s what having your ‘MoJo’ present and available to you will be like, so, please read these next sentences slowly – and the ‘key’ for you beginning to find your ‘MoJo’ will be how you respond to these sentences, in your thoughts and feelings:

Do what you want:  Anything good is achievable:  Achieve abundance and manifest happiness in your life:  Celebrate life. Start being honest with yourself:

Stop talking about other people! 

On first reading we’ll probably think: ‘Absolutely I will!’

On second or third – slow – deliberate reading – we’ll likely notice the objections coming up – as thoughts, such as: “I’m not good enough!” “I’ve tried and failed already” “Nothing works out for me!” I can’t!

These negative internal voices are one of the most important ways that we ‘lose touch’ with our ‘MoJo’.

Our ‘MoJo’ gets buried under the ‘objecting’ inner chatter in our minds.

Most of us do it!

In fact around 99% of us!!

And some of this ‘objecting’ blocking our way to happiness and celebration of our life is unconscious – we often don’t even ‘hear’ the continuous chatter – although for sure we feel the result.

We feel it in our body the churning stomach, the heaviness and tightness in our chest, pounding in our heart, a lump in our throat – and suddenly we are ‘blocked’ we are ‘stuck’ in fear. We don’t speak up, we don’t go and talk to the lovely person at a party, we don’t apply for the great job. We don’t explore, we lose our curiosity we are ‘blocked’ by fear. Our ‘MoJo’ is half ‘buried’ under the negative inner mind chatter, which plays on and on and on, bullying us.

Let’s think for a moment how we feel when we are bullied? Bullied by ‘big people’ – parents, (mostly bullying parents have good intention for us) at school maybe, – peers – people on trains and planes, people in the street! When we are not in a position to ‘stand our ground’ and retaliate, we feel ‘crushed’ – hurt, in ‘pain’ – it’s awful.

Similarly our relentless inner bullying voices ‘crush’ our self!

Polishing Our Mojo!

Do what you want, anything good is achievable, achieve abundance and manifest happiness in your life. Celebrate life. Start being honest with yourself. Stop talking about other people! 

How do we begin to achieve this state of happiness within our selves – and with others?

We begin by permanently silencing the relentless inner negative mind chatter! This is one of the most empowering things we need to do for our self. Our ‘MoJo’ will begin to become fully present, we will not become obnoxious! and we will also be safe.

There is some Great research: young children who are emotionally safe and secure are not obnoxious! They share, they are kind and generous in a healthy way.

Further important research: Positive affirmations, positive thinking, positive suggestions, relaxations, deep breathing exercises do not authentically and lastingly resolve and stop the negative inner mind chatter.

If we think of the negative inner mind chatter as being like horrid damp patches on the inside walls of our home, all the above strategies are just painting over the damp. It will feel good, refreshed and comfortable – for a few hours! Then a friend comes along and says: “Hey let’s go and do this….” And up comes the ‘damp’ – the “I can’t” “I’m not good enough” “I’m too nervous, scared……”

Thoroughly fixing the ‘damp’ takes some time – time that will be oh so rewarding and self-empowering. It’s like we need to take a journey to trace the ‘damp’ – ladders out, get onto the roof, find the broken roof tiles and remove and replace them! The new replaced tiles will last a century!
